FMEA News & Trends

Dietz Consultants: FMEA VDA AIAG Training IATF 16949

It is now almost two years, the revised, common method description of VDA and AIAG. In May the results of the work (yellow band) are now presented to the public with high probability. All interested parties then have two or three months to comment on the time. After reviewing all the comments, the last amendments are made and the new method description is published.

What essentially awaits us:

Six steps (instead of five at the VDA)

  • Elimination of the RPZ, new risk assessments
  • New assessment catalogs
  • New FMEA form

In order to complete the harmonization further, the method follows the North American standard SAE J1739.

Currently suppliers providing products to both German and N.A. OEM's are required to assess their products' failure modes and effects differently, based on differences between the Severity, Occurrence, and Detection rating tables in the VDA and AIAG FMEA Manuals. This causes confusion and adds complexity to the product development and product improvement activities of the suppliers.

The focus of the work group is to come up with a common set of FMEA requirements / expectations that will enable suppliers to have a single FMEA business process and associated set of methods and tools to produce robust, accurate and complete FMEA's that would meet the needs and expectations of any of their customers.

The significant peculiarities of the industry, for example low unit numbers, modular integration of systems, system combinatorics to realize the requirements and much more has been taken in consideration for this training.

A further special feature is the integrated practice (as homework) and the results of the research.

Dietz Consultants "On Tour": Lectures, Trainings, Seminars, Teaching

November 2017

In the two days basic workshopconducted, which is by Dietz Consultants within the framework of an event organized by the VDG Academy, professional knowledge about the  FMEA and practical experiences regarding the content, organizational and methodological preparation and implementation of an FMEA are imparted.

Participants should be trained to use their own experiences to prepare and carry out FMEA sessions. This includes tracking the implementation of defined improvement measures.

The fundamentals of quality engineering FMEA from the point of view of quality / risk management and product liability are dealt with. Similarly the economic effects of the FMEA implementation on the company are also discussed.
